We’re looking for an exceptional Portfolio Analyst to help us make a difference to our planet.

As our Portfolio Analyst, the job may be suitable for hybrid working, which is where an employee works part of the week in the office and part of the week from home. This is a voluntary, non-contractual arrangement and the location advertised will be your contractual place of work.

Our opportunity is full time, 37 hours per week, but we would also consider applicants wishing to work part-time and we will also try our best to consider those intending to work a job share. Your world of expertise

You will be working within the Governance & Reporting Team in the Portfolio Office, helping to ensure optimal delivery of Directorate and business strategic objectives, in line with Met Office priorities, through the analysis of a range of information from a variety of sources. This requires engagement with programme and project stakeholders across the organisation, as well as supporting subject matter experts within the Portfolio Office, converting data into meaningful insight to support informed decision-making, using appropriate reporting and visualisation methods.

Your key duties

  • Be responsible for key components of the monthly reporting outputs provided by the Portfolio Office in support of delivery review and decision-making boards.
  • Be the primary data expert for an assigned sub-portfolio, including its project and programmes, and be familiar with the content, complexities, and maturity of the dataset.
  • Help to develop mechanisms for measuring and reporting on adherence to best practice frameworks, evidencing the success or enhancement requirements of new working processes.
  • Help drive improved data maturity through reporting, guidance on best practice and supporting subject matter experts with change initiatives.
  • Working with business areas to identify and categorise new projects, ensuring new initiatives are correctly input and managed on the Project & Programme Management (PPM) database.

As our Portfolio Analyst, your total reward package will be up to £57,639 annually, which includes:

£41,725 base pay

An outstanding Civil Service pension, with an average employer contribution of 27%

Annual Leave starting at 27.5 days (plus Bank Holidays) rising to 32.5 days (plus Bank Holidays) after 5 years and option to buy or sell up to 5 days per year of annual leave

Essential Criteria, skills and experience:

  1. Strong analytical and critical thinking skills.
  2. Experience of designing and implementing reporting solutions using a variety of analytical and data presentation tools.
  3. Experience of managing large amounts of data from various sources and formats, using analytical tools to interpret data and provide meaningful management information.
  4. Experience of using a PPM database: data inputting, information extraction and interpretation.
  5. Adept at presenting insights and trends in a variety of formats and levels of detail to suit different audience requirements.
