Job Introduction

We’re looking for exceptional Project Managers (Level 2) to help us make a difference to our planet. 

As our Project Manager (Level 2) the job may be suitable for hybrid working, which is where an employee works part of the week in the office and part of the week from home. This is a voluntary, non-contractual arrangement and the location advertised will be your contractual place of work.

Your world of expertise

Your role as Project Manager (Level 2) will be to lead / manage projects and the project team on a day-to-day basis. You will be responsible for driving and overseeing the delivery of the project to ensure that the objectives are clearly defined and achieved within the agreed time, cost and quality constraints. You will have a key role in project governance and working with stakeholders, to ensure the agreed project outputs are delivered to enable benefits to be realised. Projects will be allocated as per the business need.

As our Project Manager (Level 2), the key duties are: 

  • Delivery – Create and lead the project to deliver the agreed outcomes within time, cost and quality constraints.
  • Project Management – Day to day management and leadership of the project and the project team. 
  • Business Case – Coordinate development of the project Business Case.
  • Budget – Track delivery within budget.
  • Resources – Schedule and manage resources to deliver the project. 
  • Stakeholder Management – Identify key stakeholders and develop effective relationships.
  • Risks & Issues – Identify and monitor project risks and issues. Develop mitigating actions and escalate as appropriate.
  • Governance – Provide key reports and support effective governance and decision making. 
  • Assurance – Support or set appropriate project assurance.
  • Guidance & Support – Seek appropriate support, guidance and coaching from the project community. 
  • Project Performance & Controls – Build Project Plan and apply appropriate project principles to deliver stated objectives. Identify and set appropriate Project Controls. Track and report delivery against milestones.

As our Project Manager (Level 2), your total reward package will be up to £57,639 annually, which includes: 

  • £41,725 base pay
  • An outstanding Civil Service pension, with an average employer contribution of 27%
  • Annual Leave starting at 27.5 days (plus Bank Holidays) rising to 32.5 days (plus Bank Holidays) after 5 years and option to buy or sell up to 5 days per year of annual leave

Essential Criteria, skills and experience: 

  • Demonstrate you are an expert by nature by having already achieved the relevant qualifications and experience - APM (Association for Project Management) PMQ Certificate / Prince 2 Practitioner and/or equivalent project related experience.
  • Expert by nature - Can demonstrate experience of delivering a project of low / moderate complexity as defined by the Project Delivery Capability Framework (PDCF). 
  • Keep Evolving - A proven ability to manage risks and issues and recommend solutions through formal and informal channels, securing effective outcomes. 
  • Live and Breathe It - Proven ability to co-ordinate multiple activities and work streams, handling shifting demands and priorities, to deliver a customer requirement or business benefit.
  • Better Together - Excellent communication skills, with a proven track record of successful liaison with stakeholders and as working as part of a team.
