Job Introduction

We’re looking for two exceptional Health & Safety Business Partners to help us make a difference to our planet. 

As our Health & Safety Business Partner, the job may be suitable for hybrid working, which is where an employee works part of the week in the office and part of the week from home. This is a voluntary, non-contractual arrangement and the location advertised will be your contractual place of work. 

Our opportunity is full time, 37 hours per week, but we would also consider applicants wishing to work a minimum of 30 hours per week and we will also try our best to consider those intending to work a job share.  Our people are at the heart of what we do and we'll do our best to agree a working pattern that works for everyone. Please note the role holders will need to travel to multiple sites as part of the role.

Your world of expertise 

You will have a significant impact on the Met Office. The two Health & Safety Business Partner roles will be supporting and driving the long-term H&S strategic improvement plan. These are key roles, which will provide impact and influence across the Met Office and all 2,000 plus employees and contractors, as you influence the building of our H&S culture and drive the improvement of our organisational health and safety risk management. 


Your key duties

    Responsible for managing and developing the Met Offices Safety Management System (SMS)

    Ensuring compliance with legislation and Met Office standards

    Leading, coaching and providing expert advice and support to their areas of business partnering support

    Promote and foster a positive safety culture throughout their areas of responsibility in support of the health and safety improvement programme

    Identifying opportunities for improvement within their allocated area of responsibility across multiple business units within the Met Office, and for delivery of projects under the improvement plan

As our Health & Safety Business Partner, your total reward package will be up to £58,419 annually, which includes: 

    £41,725 base pay

    An outstanding Civil Service pension, with an average employer contribution of 28.97%

    Annual Leave starting at 27.5 days (plus Bank Holidays) rising to 32.5 days (plus Bank Holidays) after 5 years and option to buy or sell up to 5 days per year of annual leave


Essential Criteria, skills and experience: 

1.    Keep evolving – Graduate Membership of IOSH, IIRSM or equivalent professional body

2.    Better together – Experience of providing specialist health and safety support and advise to a range of stakeholders (including trade unions), across multiple sites in a diverse work environment

3.    Expert by nature – Level 5/6 Diploma (NEBOSH Diploma or equivalent) professional health and safety qualification 

4.    Force for good –Proven health and safety experience within a complex organisation 

5.    Live and breathe it – Personal authority and credibility, with the ability to gain and maintain trust and confidence to stakeholders at all levels
