We’re looking for an exceptional Project Support Officer (Level 2) to help us make a difference to our planet.

As our Project Support Officer the job may be suitable for hybrid working, which is where an employee works part of the week in the office and part of the week from home. This is a voluntary, non-contractual arrangement and the location advertised will be your contractual place of work.

Your world of expertise

The role of the Project Support Officer at The Met Office covers a diverse range of activities to support the delivery of projects and programmes. The Project Support Officer will enable the smooth running of assigned projects by supporting the respective Programme and Project Management teams through the operation of project management processes.

Your key duties

  • Administration - Responsible for project/programme file management using robust version control. Organise and schedule project meetings, taking actions and tracking their progress through to completion. Regular monitoring and triaging of incoming emails through team mail boxes.
  • Planning and scheduling - Assist with and maintain appropriate systems to enable effective planning and scheduling. To include arrangement for and supporting project/programme workshops.
  • Monitoring and reporting - Assist in maintaining project/programme controls and in producing programme reports.
  • Stakeholder Engagement - Act as the first point of call for project/programme stakeholder visits. Act as the focal point for project responses to external requests for information.
  • Communications - support the maintenance of the project/programme communications site and manage access to related SharePoint sites.
  • Risks and Issues - Assist with and maintain risk and issue logs.

As our Project Support Officer Level 2, your total reward package will be up to  £46658 annually, which includes:

£33,794 base pay, rising to £36,235 over time.

An outstanding Civil Service pension, with an average employer contribution of 27%.

Annual Leave starting at 27.5 days (plus Bank Holidays) rising to 32.5 days (plus Bank Holidays) after 5 years and option to buy or sell up to 5 days per year of annual leave

Essential Criteria, skills and experience:

  1. Experience of working in a project/programme delivery environment.
  2. Experience of teamwork and contributing to a high performing and collaborative team culture. (We're Better Together) 
  3. Good awareness of project management principles and how these are applied during the project lifecycle, or a willingness to develop understanding.
  4. Excellent written and oral communications skills that emphasise both clarity and engagement and show a proven ability to work well with others, including senior stakeholders. (We're Better Together)
  5. Excellent planning and organisational skills, demonstrating the ability to prioritise and manage simultaneous tasks unsupervised. (Expert by Nature)
  6. Excellent time management and organisational skills with the ability to adapt and prioritise in a dynamic working environment, to support delivery of the project/programme. (Experts by Nature)
  7. Experience of administering information and data to ensure relevant Government and corporate policies are adhered to e.g GDPR
