We’re looking for an exceptional Lead Technical Architect - HPC to help us make a difference to our planet.

As our Lead Technical Architect - HPC, the job may be suitable for hybrid working, which is where an employee works part of the week in the office and part of the week from home. This is a voluntary, non-contractual arrangement and the location advertised will be your contractual place of work.

As a Technology leader, you'll be responsible for defining and collaborating on solutions that make a difference to help everyone stay safe and thrive. You'll be, working in an organisation with some of the most advanced technology both within and outside UK government and enabling the realisation of weather and climate science to services. We need great people to join us and help us exploit all of the technological benefits that the £1.2B investment in our supercomputer will bring.

The role is focused on our supercomputer (and associated systems) design, configuration and processes, to make the best out of the available resource for the different classes of user. You would be working with colleagues and suppliers to deliver future generations of our supercomputing capability.

As our Lead Technical Architect - HPC, your total reward package will be up to £79,530 annually, which includes:

•    £52,799 base pay

•    An outstanding Civil Service pension, with an average employer contribution of 27%

•    Recruitment Retention Allowance RRA: you will be paid £7,000 per annum as a market supplement to reflect the demand for your skills. Whilst in post, you will be paid this market driven allowance from April 2024 until September 2025 in your monthly pay

•    Annual Leave starting at 27.5 days (plus Bank Holidays) rising to 32.5 days (plus Bank Holidays) after 5 years and option to buy or sell up to 5 days per year of annual leave
 

Essential Criteria, skills and experience:

1.    Informed Decision-Making – Can navigate complex scenarios to make informed decisions that prioritise Supercomputing user requirements and enhance organisational value, steering projects towards successful outcomes.

2.    Solution Design and Problem-Solving – Can engage with a range of stakeholders to transform business challenges into secure, innovative technical solutions. (Better together)

3.    Technical Expertise in High-Performance Computing – Demonstrate knowledge across the spectrum of High-Performance Computing technologies and have the ability to, leverage this expertise to advance organisational strategy

4.    Bridging Technical and Non-Technical Divides – Ability to demystify technical concepts related to high performance computing, ensuring they are accessible to all stakeholders and utilise persuasive communication to secure consensus. (Experts by Nature)

5.    A drive to remain at the forefront of emerging high performance related technologies, for example, in areas such as HPC workloads, HPC optimisation, storage solutions, access controls, security, networking, and scheduling systems like PBS or SLURM. (We Live and Breathe It)
 

Desirable Criteria:

1.    Strategy - You can produce a strategy for technology that meets business needs. You can create, refine and challenge patterns, standards, policies, roadmaps and vision statements

2.    Cloud Technologies - Knowledge of how cloud technologies can be used in conjunction with High Performance Computing to exploit the best from both technologies.
